Weather
The wet season is from June to September and the dry season is from
October to May. Don't be surprised if it rains in the dry season.
During the dry season the wind blows offshore on White Beach providing
crystal clear water and no waves. Perfect for swimming and lying on the
beach.
White Beach
Is located on the west side of the island and is the main tourist area.
It has an abundance of accommodation, restaurants, bars, dive shops,
entertaining areas and shopping. Everything is within walking distance.
Accommodation
There is a variety of accommodation on the island from traditional
Filipino to western standard. Traditional rooms have an electric fan to
keep you cool. The roof is native and often has an insect living in it
which eats the material and defecates on you while sleeping, often
leading to skin rashes. These fan rooms are the cheapest type of
Accommodation.
Check to see if the resort has a back up generator, blackouts are quite
common and it is difficult to sleep without a fan or aircon.
The next room up in class has an aircon unit which is wall mounted.
Often there is a gap around the unit which will allow rain water or
insects to enter. The aircon units are typically undersized and only
provide minimal cooling.
Location
Once you move outside the area of White Beach you will encounter
infrastructure problems. There are no natural resources on the island.
Water is piped from the mainland and the storage capacity on the island
is limited. Water is provided to the White Beach tourist area. Once you
move outside of this area there are often water restrictions.
The local electricity supplier does not generate electricity and is
dependent on other suppliers. Hence the reason for the numerous
blackouts that occur. Also during peak times the power drops out.
Many resorts are not located next to main roads, and you will need to
walk down small, often sandy, pathways. So if you have a lot of
luggage be prepared.
Roxon Apartments
We are located at White Beach, we have a backup generator , water
storage tanks and you can drive a vehicle to our entrance. Our aircon
units are split systems and therefore completely sealed. They have been
over engineered for the size of the rooms.
